Handicap

Looking for parking space is obviously a challenge especially when you live in a metropolitan city like LA. While looking for a space at the Glendale Galleria mall today, parking was a bit of a challenge in light of the Labor Day weekend Sales. As I continue to look for a space, a couple in a silver Lexus drives up ahead of me to catch a space. Okay, what’s the catch? Well, as they were driving up to a handicapped parking spot, they placed a blue handicap sign on their dashboard, and rushed out of their car. Who was the handicapped person in the car? I’m still wondering about that to myself.

Disabilities that qualify one for accessible parking are not always outwardly visible. Chronic pain patients might look fine going in but dang near have to crawl coming out. Cancer patients, same thing. My mom has terrible arthritis and has a placard; she has to use it because she *doesn't* know from one minute to the next how far she'll be able to go. You just never know...

Ha! This one always cracks me up. They did this expose (Dateline, I think?) at the Home Depot where some DMV people were actually waiting for owners of the cars that are parked in the bluze zones. More often than not, these drivers were taking advantage of the system. In fact, some were even using fake blue tags. My take on this is the blue zone should be STRICTLY reserved for people who REALLY need them (i.e., people on wheel chairs and crutches). Oh, and BTW, I do have very bad arthritis, and have these blue place cards, as well....my kids insisted that I get one.
